car respray costs
Discussion
I think that there are so many variables it is difficult to get an accurate guide. Are you looking at a full glass out, trim off with lots of prep job to give an as new or better finish. Or a quick mask it up blow over?
The former could be £4-£5k the latter perhaps £1.5k. Also what car, how old, any damage or rust to sort.
You need to provide a bit more detail to get even a close guesstimate.

Yeah I appreciate that, and it is always one of the first answers I give when asked.
Rear arch rust, jacking point rust, but the car only really needs an outside paint job
Need more info.Rear arch rust, jacking point rust, but the car only really needs an outside paint job
It could be done for under £1,000 if you're not extremely fussy.
Likewise it could cost £10,000 for a resto quality paint job.
Whats the car and whats your aim in getting it resprayed - freshening it up or leaving it prestine?
I'm interested in the answers to this thread. I have a Merc W124 that I will need painting next year - I will source and supply new front arches, the rears are bubbling as these cars have the tendency to do. There are a couple of dents that need removing, and I suspect the car has had some filler on one side (on the rear arch) as it looks like it has had paint there before.
My mechanic knows a chap that he's using for his old jag who claims a £2k cost, this sounds very cheap to me!

I would have thought £2,000-£3,000 to do it right.
Does it need a full respray? Could take away from the originality?
Sadly yes it does. 15 years, 126k miles, stone chips and some jealous Does it need a full respray? Could take away from the originality?

Would you get away without doing the roof? Big help when it comes to spraying.
I'd say budget £2,000 to £3,000 and find someone who comes highly recommended and whos previous work you can see and examine.
I was £120 bumper remove, paint and refit + £350 for the whole side of my clio including getting a small dent removed and all imperfections removed.
It was £70 more than quoted because the paint was expensive.
Your mileage may vary. Depends where you are, who you use, how much you want done ext.

As a person who owns a paintshop all the jobs we take in have to be priced with the car in front of us, as there are so many factors we now have to take into account it's madness to quote without seeing the car.It was £70 more than quoted because the paint was expensive.

1) How much are the paint & materials going to cost, some simple colours can cost the most (a land rover black works out at £120.00 per litre) so it's vital you get the right colour code. also some colours fade in UV or they don't match despite being the right code at which point we have to use tinters & spray outs to make sure you get the right match all of these things take time.
2) Condition of the car
3) How long does it take to pull the car apart (some cars take longer than others)
4) A bumper respray is around £300.00 minimum
5) A respray will cost £2500.00 at the very least
6) One of the reasons you see so many cars on the roads with non matching paint is because there might be seven different shades on the same paint code if the paintshop doesn't have all the different shades they can't match it.
I have two Porsches in at the moment with this very problem.
So the only real answer to your question is go to three or four body shops get quotes & get the best job you can afford.
Oh & by the way anyone who can do a proper respray for £1000 isn't where you want to be taking your car, also the question you have to ask is what is it they aren't doing that the others are.

^^^ ThisBroadly speaking, cars are so cheap these days you can't justify the cost of respraying them.
Just sell it and buy a better example.
I have recently had a 2011 Audi Q5 fully resprayed from blue to Ibis white. No damage to the car (apart from a small dent on bonnet), its just the Mrs wasn't happy with the blue. I considered all options including selling and buying her a white one, a wrap but decided a respray made most financial sense. The job isn't quite 100% but you wouldn't know unless you looked closely at some of the door shut areas. Anyway its perfectly good enough and came in at £1500 from a friend.
