2nd Car

Hi Chaps, I've recently had to sell my dream car due to yet another redundancy. I've now got a better paying job so have decided to buying something nice again as a weekend car, having been inspired by the keeper's thread! Now, being paranoid about redundancy, I will need to get something which isn't going to lose money and possibly even appreciate as time goes on - just in case!
I have a budget of between £5-£7k and will be looking for a coupe / convertible which has a decent turn of pace
Any suggestions?

Should be able to get an early Monaro for that amount. Values haven't gone down in the past 3/4 years, so should be a safe bet. Similarly the s2000.

E36 M3 values for good cars are said to be firming up too.

Quite wide criteria but perhaps a Boxster.

E36 do definitely seem to be steady / on the up, and in your budget. S2000 is also steady, mine is actually worth a bit more than I paid for it too

Sorry for the late response - I've been out all day. Thanks for the replies chaps. Some interesting choices in there! The car would be used only at weekends and in decent weather, so these suggestions would be spot on. Now to get looking at the classifieds!!
