Hi all, got a bit of a confusing situation to deal with.

I'm about to purchase a car as a daily driver and want to keep my Integra Type R DC2 as a second car, limited miles, used mainly for shows and occasional sunny weather driving.

I spoke to my insurer and I can't just do a change of vehicle and keep the Integra as a second vehicle according to them, and my only options are either take out a brand new policy for it but with zero no claims bonus, or put it on temporary insurance, however you can only do this for 30 days per calender year, plus is ridiculously expensive.

My only other option is cancel the whole lot, lose money and a years additional no claims (as I'm halfway through the policy) and insure both cars with someone else who can let me put 2 cars on a policy. I know loads of people who run 2 cars yet don't seem to have this issue - I thought it would be a simple case of doing a change of vehicle plus a bit added on to my premium for a second car???

Some insurers do multi vehicle policies, some do not, as you've just found out. I insure two cars and they are with different insurance companies. One if the cars is as you describe, as has limited use.

I've never heard of sharing an NCD over two cars though, but maybe there is a company out there that will do this.

fk that company off,go with Multicar insurance.

Never use them again.

What's six months in the grand scheme of things.

You can only have NCB on one car.

When it comes to car insurance I've always found Aviva to be excellent. Very good customer service, very accommodating and not much more expensive than the cheapies.

Best of all seems to be NFU Mutual. I was insured with them for a year but when I bought my Z4 to insure as a third car they were around twice the price of Aviva.

Thanks for the replies, I might have a look at getting a decent multi car quote and just cancelling my current policy. The Integra seems to be a ridiculously difficult car to get a cheap quote on though from normal insurers. frown

Given its intended use can you look at classic/specialist insurance for the Integra and switching the existing policy to the new car.

Yes I thought of that but every classic insurer I spoke to couldn't do it due to not being over 20 years old. Wish they could do a future classic policy!

I insure through Axa and when I bought a third car they mirrored my no claims and gave 10% off. Probably only applies to certain occupations and with an age limit.

Similar with LV.
