I have this obsession about getting one 300bhp awd what's not to like.my price point is around 3k very maximum. So will be looking for older models. Is there a decent buyers guide for these. Things to look out for good bad points.i have been told to avoid auto boxes and that's about it really. Is there any body with real world experiences of these . Would like to know. About mpg service intervals tyre wear etc. any help would be much appreciated due to being my first performance car.

Thank you in advance for any help

The 4wd system can be quite weak and they end up FWD only and they have problems with cracked cylinder liners, would stick to the T5.

Lots of information crops up from time to time in the Smoker Barge threads, as above the consensus is that the drivetrain has weaknesses, and in the real world a T5 will be barely any slower. Automatics can be problematic IIRC but I'm no expert, just going off what I remember reading as I was interested in the S60R once. I still like the look/capability of them but have moved on.

I think by judging by the replys so far I'd best leave them alone.dont really want expensive repair bills.will have a look at t5's instead really want a volvo for some reason.looking at them I see you can get them in s40 and s60 variants.i think it's beacuse they look normal until you push the throttle a q car maybe smile

I have a V70R.

They are great cars, very different to a T5.

There are some words of caution, such as the angle gear.

The engine is the same as the Focus ST and is great

4 wheel drive system, it directs the drive to the rear wheels

Have to agree with everything above. I owned a S60R for 63 months, 33 of which it was in a garage getting any one of a number of problems fixed. Most fragile car I've ever owned, a serious money-pit, yet strangely addictive.

I wouldn't touch another with a barge pole. wink

My friend has an S60R and thats been fairly problem free except a few usual wear and tear items.

Turning circle is diabolical though!

Also not to mention the cost of pads/discs are utterly eye watering.

Suspension is reasonably reliable but throws up the odd issue and again is horrific in prices to fix.

The drivetrain is a major issue, and a mega expensive fix, auto gearboxes are made of chocolate. Turning circle is laughable (even for S60 standards) 18' wheel cars will catch inner arch liners anywhere near full lock which is a major irritant. Fuel consumption is terrible.

Comfortable cars otherwise but at 3k id not touch one with someone elses money.

The AWD system is made of chocolate.

I wanted one, read everything and went for a Audi S4 instead...given the choice again I'd buy the Audi.
Much better car all round tbh
