Mercedes E63 AMG by Vaeth

Well why have just 585hp when you could have 750?

We like the Mercedes E63 AMG S here at PH. As a saloon it's hilarious and the estate is arguably even sillier still, especially as both are rear-drive only. Now Vaeth has launched a series of 'V63 RS Export' upgrades taking Merc's fastest estate to 750hp, 737lb ft and 220mph. Yes, really.

An E-Class never looked so evil
An E-Class never looked so evil
The power gain comes through new Vaeth turbos running a higher boost pressure, an ECU remap and a new exhaust. There is a 680hp upgrade available for those feeling slightly less insane. At 24,000 euros (just under £19K) the full 750hp job is certainly not a cheap way to big power, but then it is more power than a Pagani Huayra.

Other modifications fitted to this car here included the front coilovers (the self-levelling rear is adapted too) which can lower the car between 20 and 40mm for 1,100 euros (£860). The forged 20-inch wheels are expensive at 3,400 euros (£2,700) for the four but do look damn good. With the suspension drop too you have an E-Class wagon crammed with visual attitude. Top marks for the debadge too.

There are a few carbon trinkets Vath will sell you too but that detracts from the covert appeal of the V63 RS bits. Leave the interior add-ons as well. According to the press release 'Vaeth suggests to take a set of racing braking pads and Castrol SRF racing brake fluid including flexible steel brake tubes'. Sounds like wise advice...

The propensity of big, fast Benzes to depreciate means the Vaeth package becomes a whole lot more feasible. This grey estate is £63K with just over a thousand miles on it... Actually, perhaps wait until it's out of warranty for the 750hp upgrades. Still, cool car!

Didn't I read recently about a company taking the top off the ECUs and making 700 HP with no other changes? I think their bill was £3k... Just saying.

I wonder what would be a quicker point to point car (especially on the continent).

An E63 AMG with all this 'Vaeth' kit on it (at considerable cost and voiding any warranty) OR a standard E63 4-Matic?

There's no way the cooling system will cope with 700BHP in its current form. That's an almost 150BHP increase. You'd be constantly de-rating so you may as well stick with the 585BHP!

Think id take an new RS6 and a MRC map. 4wd and 700PS and 900NM thanks. (much easier to hide a map it something goes pop aswell to the warranty company than some great big huge turbos) Plus 4wd in the UK.

Fantasy for me at the moment though.

Lunacy. I'll take mine in Taxi silver, de-badged and silver none bling alloys. Should be good to see off most cars on the road apart from 1.9 TDI Audi's biggrin

Really 220mph? would the rest of the drive-train be able to cope with turning at that rate, I mean gearbox and diff aside wheel bearings and drive shafts would the take the heat/force? Also is a standard E Class estate body going to stay stable at that speed?

Discounting all the above I would love one!

my guess (an it is a guess) is these cars have a lot of slack built in and so 220mph is proberbly just using that enginering slack up. However I would also say that you might only want to use the full 700etc for short periods and its likely to need more servicing. Bit like EVO's of old buy an MR300 fiddle with it a bit an hey presto 400 or more BHP but then you needed to look after it more.

The article I read (think it was in Evo a month or two back) made no mention of changing major components, just the ECU and probably rear tyres!

Jesus christ its not the fifties!

Im sure it would be more than capable of handling that sort of power and that speed also, its not going to undress its self as soon as it hits 220!

Most dealer level kit detects remaps as soon as the diagnostic kit is plugged in.

I would have thought the original cooling system would have been specified for worst-case heat rejection, i.e. tackling steep Alpine passes at full axle loads and towing a trailer. So if you aren't loading the car to such an extreme there's possibly plenty of headroom for the cooling to cope. But without any inside knowledge I can't say for sure. Certainly burning that much fuel is going to generate a lot of heat.

The Germans restrict their cars so they don't have to build them to aspec capable of those speeds.
We all know derestricted M5 can do over 200mph. But they're limited to 155mph, so that "cheaper" components can be used.

Depends on how much cheaper those components are as you can derestrict those cars from the factory to at least go to 280, in the case of the M5 IIRC. I would assume that there is even more slack built into the specs.

What is it about 737ftlb of torque? Am I just imagining the number of these big turbo engines that seem to coincide on 737?

  • Just checked and it's ~1000Nm, which probably explains it.

Fair point and one assumes the tuning company would not put that level of power through a drive-train if they thought it would detonate within 10,000 miles, do they do some form durability testing?
