I'm fed up with the doors & windows freezing on my 997.
Will a car cover stop this happening?
I am aware that it might cause scratches to a car that isn't clean but there are half covers that cover the roof & windows that look interesting?

DOesn't stop the windows freezing though & then you can't close the doors as they are frameless & drop when you open them / go back up when you close them

Yes. I have a 'half cover' somewhere for the roof and windows.

Works a treat but I wouldn't be as keen using it on a metal roofed car.

You need one that's waterproof and breathable so that moisture escapes and doesn't freeze underneath. I made the mistake of buying one that was waterproof but not breathable, the moisture froze and with it froze the cover to the body.

That wasn't a good day; what an idiot.

You also need somewhere to put the cover where it can thaw and dry (and stay clean) when you take it off the car. A frozen breathable cover is quite stiff and obviously the ice will melt and leave you with a wet cover. If you just roll it up and stick it in a bag it will be mouldy quite quickly.

This is a good point. Can be a bit annoying to find somewhere.
