(Apologies if this has come up before, I did use the search feature before posting :-)

I would like a track/weekend car like a Caterham or Ariel, my wife says- "But you won't be able to take me and our son with you in a 2 seater" which is true but I never intended to ;-)

However, it did make me think- What is the most extreme, sporty, no creature comforts car that still has 4seats?
(I was tempted to say 3 because that's all I need but some wag would just say Mclaren F1)

I got as far as-
TVR Cerbera
Lotus Evora
Porsche 911 (maybe 944/968/928 as well but slightly less "extreme")

OK, they are no where near as basic as a 7 or Atom but performance wise they approach it. Anything more "supercar" tends to only be 2 seats so any other suggestions in the Extreme 4 seat niche?
(I have discounted anything with 4doors or modicum of practicality, so no BMW's for example)

Track prepped M3 or EVO/scooby

Or GTR as mentioned above.

M3 is probably the closest to the 7 in terms of dynamics purely because RWD.

Probably not what you had in mind, but I always thought the Morgan four-seater looked like a good way to fall out with whoever has to sit in the back.

Tesla S Dual Motor. 700bhp 4WD smile

If not the most extreme 4 seater, its got to be the most extreme 7 seater!

Edited to add.....forget that, I missed that it had to be basic.

My Panamera Turbo S does a good job of getting four people around at pace.

ETA I've just reread the original post so my suggestion doesn't count smile

I know the OP said no BMWs, but the E46 M3 CSL has to be a contender surely? As for his mention of Porsches, most are at least as refined as a 3 series or similar exec saloon, unless it's a GT3, but then you lose the rear seats.

The trouble with four seaters is that almost all of them are made with practicality in mind that stretches beyond the four seats, so they'll have sound deadening, softer suspension than something extreme, all the creature comforts etc. Manufacturers, perhaps quite rightly, assume that they'll be used everyday. The M3 is a mighty fine car, but for me it drives like the ultimate 3 series, not a track special; same with the RS4, except it's even more laid back and A4 like than the M3 is 3 series like (imho). Cars like the Caterham, Brooke, 2-11 and Atom really are a breed apart. I actually ended up buying my 2-11 after being disappointed with the refinement and everyday feel of all the Exiges that I tried.

I think the only company to buck this trend are Mitsubishi, with the Evo. It's not a Caterham or Atom replacement (would anything over 1000kg ever be? 4WD too..), but it's a lot more raw than any recent M3s have been.

ETA: Integra Type R? EP3 CTR? Add some Mugen mods maybe...

Super/turbocharged one perhaps? And lighter than most of the other stuff listed.

Judging by a quick google image search, the rear seats are still in place.
But in case I'm wrong, feel free to pick another sporty version of a Granturismo that does have rear seats.

I think the current one you can have with the rear seats still. The 2010 had no rears with the option of the Harness/rollcage combo.

4 seats, pretty extreme, probably bloody hilarious on a track, with different tyres
