Annoying I agree. Wish people would use their damn handbrakes.
What many people aren't aware of is that modern cars like the one in the picture have electronic handbrakes that automatically apply when stationary and keep the brake lights on.VWs original system worked more like an old fashioned handbrake in a manual where the brake lights were off with the foot off the brake pedal and electronic handbrake applied. They were forced to pull this system from sale in the US after being faced with litigation that drivers were rear ended by not showing brake lights like previous auto held on the brake pedal and introduced the current system which seems to be in all markets and other manufacturers have done the same.
Unfortunately it seems to have coincided with a manufacturer battle to provide the brightest lights possible within regulations!

I think this is the problem. Some are brighter then fog lights. I've no idea how they can get away with it but clearly they do. It seems daft to me and anti-social.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

The brightest I've seen so far are the ones on the new BMW X5. They really are hard to miss, especially because they're wired up to the parking brake.
