My stepsons 318 ci BMW recently imploded so he is now looking for a new car, we were looking at a Honda civic 2.0 s type 2002 but he has been advised by his Dad that the engine is too big and it will cost him to much to run, he probably does 5000 miles a year (he is 29) I have said there will be little difference in that or a 1.6/1.4 but I am probably best not to advise as I have a 540 and a 330 BMW so I am not exactly into being part of the green party

Depends really. My scoob cost twice as much to fuel as my megane despite both having 2l engines.

I doubt itll cost much - even the type-r is fairly frugal afaik

The 1.6 civic is around 39mpg real world
The 2.0 civic is around 33mpg real world

Whilst it is an Eco engine over the TypeR engine it's not that great.
