Had a key to my car stolen, advice please.
Discussion
I was burgled last week and amongst the haul the tw@ts took one of the keys to my 3 series.
I took it to the dealership the next day to have the locks and keys changed so the key the thieves have is now useless, speaking to the police they say that in all probability they will come back to try to take the car.
My car is garaged every night, the garage is at the end of a long driveway at the back of my house which is pretty secluded, as in nobody could really see it from the road.
Question is do I still leave it in the garage or change my insurance and leave the car on the drive at front of my house in the hope that if they do come back they will try the key and just f
k off or the alternative is I could have my them walking up my drive and breaking in to the garage?
I get the car back tomorrow.

I would leave the car on the drive. If they return they'll try it then hopefully f
k off. Surely better than risking them breaking in again or into the garage.
I thought for the insurance 'where is the car kept' was for the majority of the time. Surely your allowed to keep the car somewhere else for a couple of days a year.

And they'll trash the car in frustration and to 'show' you.
I'd get it parked off site, somewhere else for a few weeks.
That is possible, however while I think they're scum of the earth for destroying your pride and joy, I would much rather they damage my car than break into my home while my family are in it.I'd get it parked off site, somewhere else for a few weeks.
On a side note, did they actually change the lock on the car? When I lost my keys to a F10 5 series they said all they could do was deactivate the key so the car couldn't be started but they could still use the key to open the door.

BMW wouldn't recode the keys, they'd only do the work with the go ahead from Allianz who said the control unit, locks and keys had to be changed. On a side note, did they actually change the lock on the car? I could have paid the £1030 myself but I'd have had to wait nearly 3 weeks for a courtesy car, Allianz got me one that afternoon.
When burglars took my spare key, I found the small print of the insurance stated they would pay £100 towards replacing the locks, so I was seriously out of pocket.
The garag was occupied by the motorbike which meant the car was on the driveway. Once the locks had been changed I made sure I fitted a very visible steering lock each night. Obviously it would not stop professionals, but it was something of a deterrent to put them off trying once they realised the old key no longer worked.
