So I thought I would help a friend out at work by helping him to sell his daughters car as he knows nothing about them or how to sell them.

Its cheap, way under priced for what it is but they want it gone. As it is such a 'bargain' I have put 'no offers' in the ad. I listed it this morning and then it started!!

I must have had 20 texts, U still got car, Will U take £300 now m8, Have U got car email me bak as I cant get texts so we can do a fast deal, etc etc etc etc!!!

Not one normal phone call, all just ste texts in stupid fking text speak I mean FFS if you are interested just give me a ring.

I'm being inundated by complete and utter bellends by text!

If I want a car I ring the person up & speak to them about it like a normal human being....is this not normal anymore??

Yeah I know, cool story not enough fking bd swearing etc!!

Same on PH as well. I listed my G wagon a few weeks ago and some replies were comical. One just said "got Q7 swap", that was it- 3 words.

I never put a phone number on a gumtree advert. Force people to email and only respond to those who can string a sentence together - works well for me.

I find Autotrader a bit better around here - fewer calls of higher quality.

I've found eBay to be just as bad for questions in text speak, and insultingly low offers.

I've had plenty of 'wots ur bst price m8?' type messages, to which I usually respond with 'the price'.

Surely your best price would be more than the advertised price?

I was advertising my Civic for £2500 last year, got the usual...

Timewaster: "Take £1500 cash for ur Civic this weekend?"

Me: "Yeah sure, will you be paying the other £1000 by Paypal or Bank Transfer? Or you could come and view it and make a sensible offer then?

Timewaster: Ive ad 6 of these and know them inside and out

Me: Then you would know that one in this condition is worth more than £1500

Timewaster: Most defo be worth that.

Me: It sold today for significantly more, thanks anyway.

In all honesty it didn't sell for a huge amount more but the person who bought it came and viewed it and made a sensible offer based on what he saw.
