Weird rear light cluster of French X6 in Cardiff today

Followed a lovely white french registered BMW x6 into Cardiff earlier and it had a weird rear light cluster on the nearside rear.

There was a bright green circle in the cluster and whenever they braked what looked like the white reverse light came on underneath the green part but no red brake light, the red brake light though worked fine on the other side.

The cluster was not broken in any way it looked full factory fitted, and the car looked very new.

Any ideas what it may have been? tried to take a pic at the lights but could not get my phone out in time

I would guess the cluster was broken. My friend's c4 rear light cluster got broken and the indicator had a green filter lens inside the cluster, I presume to make it flash the correct shade of yellow through the tinted outer lens

Granted they are not pretty!

Ah that makes sense about the green projector being exposed then,that was the part I could not understand, the cluster outer casing must have broken away neatly making it look the way it did, the white light only came on when he braked.

Thanks gents, it was bugging me, I had no idea the internal reflectors were green
