Hi, I'm after a few suggestions.
I'm going to be 21 at the start of February and I'm looking to get a new car. I currently have a classic mini with a 1293 engine which I built and specced myself. I have a deep love for my mini but It's started to get a bit unpractical and it mists up, is very lumpy, leaks oil, breaks down and I'm too scared to take it on long journeys. Hence the reason for a new car.
I'm after something pretty sporty, newish, and no slouch. I am restricted by engine size and my father says I can only go up to 1.6 litre. I may or may not be able to go down the forced induction route. Depends on my luck. I have a budget of about 10k
I was looking at a fiesta metal as it's pretty nippy, nice interior and not a bad looking car. But I'm not sure if I would want to cash out 10k for a normalish fiesta.
Can anyone suggest anymore cars to me please?
All suggestions are appreciated

Why are you limited to 1.6? You're an adult, no?

A 1.6 turbo can be over 200PS...

I've been looking at the Audi A1's with the 1.4 tsfi engine, 185 bhp and remappable up to around 200bhp, smile

£10k can buy something nice, don't get a boring golf.
Get a classic from your dad's era, the 1.6 limit will disappear.

I'm limited to 1.6 as it will be on my business insurance. my brother had a cooper s and he only just managed to get insurance as they took into consideration his clean licence and heavy goods licence. I could decide to pay for my own insurance and up the power, but it would mean my budget would decrease and I think I would rather stay on the business insurance as it's less hassle

Why not pop into you local ford dealer ship and see how much the monthly payments will be on a Fiesta ST, they do there own finance on the ford options, get it over 2 year

How about a fabia 1.4tsi? The Monte Carlo ones with 2 tone paint look smart. Does seem a weird limitation though. Would have thought something like a 1.8 petrol mondeo or Octavia would be better on insurance and more suited to longer journeys.

Spend 7 grand on a car and the rest on the insurance then. Unless your dad is buying you the car and that's why you are paying any attention to what he is saying?

Corsa VXR, Cooper S, Clio 197, Astra VXR, Focus ST, Golf GTI, Mazda3 MPS.... The list is endless

Surprised you are limited to 1.6.
When I was 19 I bought a 3.0, now and will be moving to a 4.2 V8 S/C at 21. You may be supervised at the price of insurance, I pay similar rates to smaller engined cars.

This, or Lupo GTI but I'm biased tongue out natural progression from a Mini, I had one as my first car, now got a Lupo and they're faster, comfier but still have that go-kart-like handling.

But he state he's after something that can hack long journey's etc, I drove a Panda 100HP and the ride is absurdly bouncy. Not something I would consider taking on a long journey. Or if he did you wanted to go that route, Abarth 500 all the way!

Aren't the WRC cars all 1.6's now, oh you said 10k biggrin

Twingo RS, Cooper S, Swift Sport.. all great 1.6's just none are probably great at long distances

EDIT: Actually isn't the newish Polo GTI a 1.4 TSI, probably going to be the fastest in a straight line for under 1.6 displacement. Probably going to fall apart in the fun department though and not to sure on prices, suppose there is the Fabia VRS
