How much do you slow down for a speed camera? Do you stick to bang-on the indicated speed, or treat it like an approximate guide?

I usually don't need to slow at all and happily go through a 30-cam at an indicated 32mph, 40-cam at indicated 42/43mph and 50s at indicated 53mph. The only ticket I got was for 37mph in a 30-zone when I thought it was a 40 and was in slower-moving traffic. D'oh!

But I notice so many people dropping anchors and doing them at 27/37/47mph and then putting their foot down again and shooting off into the distance.

Best to brake to below profit scam threshold, that way you can proceed through whats apparently an incresed-danger stretch of road while paying attention to said road and it's risks rather than gawping at a dial on the dashboard to make sure someone doesn't profiteer from road deaths on this occasion.

I drive at the speed limit. They are useful things though because if they flash I know I got it wrong.

Slow down to the limit, even if - e.g. Wiltshire - I know they are turned off. Can't stop myself!

I find it a little annoying when someone ahead of me brakes to below the limit at speed cameras, on dual carriageways I am generally on cruise control at around 75 and so I too have to brake and then reset after the camera, not a big deal but mildly annoying.

I did have one occasion though which I thought dangerous and got more than mildly annoyed, a car had just passed me and I pulled out behind it to pass another vehicle, the overtaker then slammed on his brakes on seeing a speed camera, I too had to brake hard to avoid running into the back of him.
It would have been my fault if I hit him but hard braking when there was nothing in front of him certainly took me by surprise.

The only speed cameras I come across on a regular basis are on 70mph limit roads and, since I prefer to cruise along at an indicated 75-ish, I don't slow down at all. That is unless of course the car in front is being piloted by an imbecile who drops to 65 'just to be safe'.

I've recently driven along the A1 near Leeming a fair bit where they've got average speed cameras and noticed a lot of people slowing down for them (from the 50mph limit) - some remedial maths lessons needed there.

I do the speed limit (indicated on speedo) through them. If this upsets others then so what, I don't wish to pick up a speeding ticket.

There is one camera on the A! south on Alnwick that I always speed up for.
It is on a stretch of dual carriage way just before it narrows to a single lane.
The camera was installed, they then asked the farmer for a wayleave to get electric to it. He refused. So one useless box, but makes for a good overtaking zone that few know about!
