Changing Focus TDDI glow plugs?

Good evening all,
I am trying to change the glow plugs on my Focus TDDI, but access is quite limited I have been finding. I have managed to change the offside glow plug but all the others are neatly tucked behind injector pipes and other associated hoses.
My workshop manual suggests that it is possible to change them without dismantling the injection system or removing intercooler. I have also seen posts elsewhere on the web saying it's fiddly but easily doable.
Am I missing a special tool then in this case? I cannot see how a socket could possibly fit on the glow plug behind the injector pipes, nor can I see how it can be withdrawn?
Any help would be most appreciated, what with the impeding winter and not wanting to end up taking it to a garage.
