Would you still make an offer?

If there is a valid reason why you think that particular vehicle is worth an amount less than it is advertised for, then yes.

The worse that can happen is tthat the dealer refuses, but you've not lost anything as the there was a valid reason why the car was worth less to you, so you wouldn't have paid the asking price.

If you are making an offer for the sake of it, then no, I wouldn't bother.

You have everything to gain and nothing to lose by trying your luck.

The worst he/she can say is "No"

Depends on how nice the car is and how good the price is.

Saw a very nice GTO for a reasonable price last week, which said no offers. Fair play to the guy to be honest, it looked lovely, had a book full of history and receipts, and if it looked as good as it looked, I probably would have just paid the guy the asking price.

If it was just a normal run of the mill car, with a asking price that was pretty much the same as everything else, I probably would ask if he would take a lower offer. I'd be nice about it though and just point out that there are plenty of others about for less. If he says no and I'm confident I can find better, then there's nothing lost if he gets shirty and says no.

Well, it is a tricky one as I think there are slightly cheaper cars out there. But not much. IF this one is in the condition I require then I would pay the premium for it... But my OH resents going to see it just because of the "No offers".. It is also a 3 hour drive....

I don't understand why dealers write ste like that.

If it's a rare car, that is unlikely to be found elsewhere at that price then yes it seems like a decent statement.

But if it's for a common enough car then I don't see the point. Surely everyone haggles a bit off the price of the car, even if it's a few hundred pounds off. I would have thought it would be better attracting customers in, even if they don't buy that car you can try and sell something else in their budget.

If the vehicle is priced correctly, and there are no defects that need rectifying, then why do you feel you need to pay less?

The last three vehicles I've sold for my asking price, but I feel that they were priced and prepared correctly.

The last guy asked if I would accept an offer which equated from memory to be around 10% less than the asking price, when I enquired as to the justification for the offer, he couldn't answer.

I personally feel that if I'm in a position to be having a conversation with the dealer, then I've done my homework, know what the market is doing and what is typical condition wise for that type of vehicle. If it all stacks up ame it is better than the average then I'll pay the asking and get on with my life.

Well priced correctly is a challenge, the prices are all over the shop... But they vary so much with gadgets and mileage.

As for defects, I won't know until I get there, but I would be quite happy to pay the asking price frankly if it is in perfect condition, mainly because I CBA to keep travelling around looking at cars in poor condition...

Only a Passat estate...

It is pointless saying "No Offers" as anyone can turn up, look at it and make an offer, you cant stop them, price it, advertise it and just take a price you are happy with.

My only worry is if it does need a few bits doing (I know this is going to be a shock, but when you ask about condition before driving for two hours, not all dealers are honest!).... Then I would want money off to fix them. Don't want to waste my time if they won't budge.

That's what they've done? And they've put no offers as that's the price they are happy to take, there's no point wasting anyone's time if they're not going to take less.

Why is 'POA' fine? Most people surely just ignore it. If they can't be bothered to tell me how much it is I'll move onto the next car. Not going to call on the offchance the price is reasonable.

Because it's normally on cars that are not the 'norm' and priced well above that of the normal Man on the street or in markets where prices are watched very carefully etc.

Those who buy and sell these cars are careful about what they buy and sell for and how those prices affect the market.

On a POS standard car it's stupid though!

I find it absolutely loads on manufacturer approved used cars. I guess its because they've not prepped it yet so they don't know how much to ask for it, or perhaps it's an ex-demo thats not got a final mileage therefore no final price but its really annoying, advertise it when its ready for me to buy!

'Part ex to clear'

'Trade sale only'

Both happy to sell a car to Joe Public but more than likely know it's got faults that will soon surface and they don't want to bear any responsibility after the sale.
