Having recently come to owning my first Convertible (S2000) I'm absolutely loving having the roof down, even when it's technically freezing outside!

Unless it's raining, I have the roof down. If it's cold I put the heating on full so I get nice warm hands/feet/face while getting a nice cool fresh feeling over the head smile

It's only everyone seems to look at me like I'm completely nuts!!

So am I alone, or do you guys do it as well?

In fact I've just got back from a 150 mile drive around South Wales with the roof down driving

having the roof down is an amazing feeling smile I tend to have it down as much as I can in the summer, winter occasionally - depends on how I feel. I do a 130 mile commute twice a week, once in mine, car share the other day; and I don't mind the roof down in summer on that trip - especially on the back roads - but winter, I'd freeze I think, no matter how good the heater is! Gets noisy on the motorway though!
I have had the roof down 2 or 3 times this December, both gorgeous sunny days, not too chilly either! The husband hates me having the roof down when he is with me, so opportunities don't happen often when we're going somewhere together frown

Used to do it all the time when I had my S2000. Also got some "poser" looks.

If yours is one of the older ones with the plastic rear window be careful to warm it up first, or it could crack when dropping the roof.

Only had one convertible which came with a removable hardtop which I fitted over the winter months so can't say I ever tried it but can honestly say itso something I never felt the urge to do.
My favourite time for driving with the roof down was at night in the summer when it was dark. I got a few funny looks and 'why have you got the roof down in the dark' questions as if it's only something your supposed to do when the Suns out!

Whenever I'm going out for more than an hour and I've got a chimaera so I don't need to have the roof all the way down, I just take the top bit off to make it a targa. Do it like that all of the time in the winter as it gives all of the roof down goodiness without getting freezing cold earholes :P

You're not alone; I've got lovely memories of driving my MX5 down country roads with the roof down under a starry sky with snow laying round aboutcool

I drive my Vortx in winter and that doesn't even have doors, a windscreen or a heater, let alone a rooflaugh The cold doesn't bother me but the wet roads do as it's a bit hairy with the tyres I have on there.

You're not alone, the S54 engine just sounds too awesome to leave the roof up... cold weather isn't really an issue, put the heating / heated seats on wink

Some don't do it to be 'cool', but because it's enjoyable.

When I have had a vert or targa, if it has been sunny then the roof has been down. And it doesn't need to be warm, just sunny!

Ive never understood why passers by have the 'why has he got the roof down in this weather?' mentality when they are, more often than not, out in the same weather as yourself (granted on foot and not in a car). They never seem to think it when they see someone on a motorbike.

Anyway, the roof on my Z4 is buggered so that stays up but ive taken the Exocet out a few times over the last few weeks. That isnt just missing a roof but also doors, windscreen and any possible weather protection you can imagine. The few extra layers of clothing worn and the heat from the engine is more than enough to keep me comfortably warm.

The middle of the night in driving snow is by far the best time to drive round with the roof off - particularly if you find yourself on an unlit b road with nobody looking.

Christmas Day was lovely and sunny here in North London. I took the 964 targa out for a two hour morning blast along almost deserted Hertfordshire B roads. Windows down, targa stowed, heater on full blast, bobble hat covering bald pate, carols blaring out of the stereo courtesy of Classic FM. I stopped off at a pub for a leisurely cup of tea and a bag of crisps.

What a morning. Life doesn't get better, IMO.
