There was an article about this car/owner in Mercedes classic recently. He'd owned it since the early 80's & had apparently done lots of such events in it. Sadly he decided to sell it as he could no longer use it as he wanted due to insurance issues. I assume he couldnt get cover/appropriate cover for such events.
For me it's a really sad aspect of cars values increasing as they do. They're investments not access to wonderful experiences.
Additionally it's a shame the SL moniker didn't continue as such a drivers car, as good as some subsequent SL's are they're not as fantastic as the original, nowhere near.

Thanks OP for sharing that, I really enjoyed it - superb driving. I want to be doing that when I'm older!
It's a tricky situation with many classics that were bought cheaply many years ago, they're now far too valuable to drive as intended. A shame as cars aren't meant to just sit in museums and sheds.

Huge respect is due here. The 300SL has notoriously bad handling on the limit due to its rear swing axel design, (think early VW beetle rear end and you will get the picture. I suspect a lot of mods have been carried out to get that car to handle so well at those speeds. Well done that man

agree with this. loved the video - fantastic sound. fair play and respect to him for driving that such an expensive car like that, with such skill. he's got a bigger pair than i, that's for sure. i got nervous just watching the oversteer from here

To be fair, I doubt that car was ever cheap. However, I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment. It's a crying shame when cars like this can no longer be used simply because investors have pushed up prices to ridiculous levels.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
