Whilst browsing the classifieds I stumbled across this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-BMW-330i-3-0-auto-S...

Mentions nothing of finance, but still charged a £110 admin fee? What for?! Surely selling the car leaves enough of a profit, especially as it's a cat D too?!

also visible rust in the front ns wing in the 1st pic

They are just chancing their arm with the admin fee and will be the 1st thing they knock off, in fact they plan too.

I'd not even waste my time looking at that.

There will be better cars available.

At that price point you are going to get much better value / feel for how good the car is if you buy privately.

The warranty from some of these types of dealers isn't worth having.

I wasn't going to take it further as it's a cat D as well.
I found a better one anyway, was a little bemused that they would try and charge an admin fee.

it's the latest craze of how to alienate and generally ps off your customers while making the headline price seem slightly more competitive
it's not just cars, it's the same with everything, with some things particularly when there are monthly payments involved it makes a lot more sense for them to try on, in that it's much less transparent and better able to misleads/confuses the customer much more into really making it seem a better deal.

The last time I was involved in buying a used car from a dealer the total price included 50 quid for number plates. My daughter (she loves a fight with a tele-marketer or a sales person smile) pointed out that she was quite happy with the number plates on the car, and she didn't require replacements.

The result was 50 quid off the bill... and new plates with the dealer's name on.

I guess it's worth conning your customers out of £50 (or £110) multiplied by however many vehicles your "car supermarket" sells every year.

I would be tempted to tell them you charge a "purchase fee" to reflect your time spent viewing the car, making payment Etc.. biggrin

+1 although my payment fee is twice their admin fee.

I wouldn't do business with these sort of people in any case.
