Hello!

First off I just want to say I'm not a super duper car person, I don't know all the ins and outs which is why I came here. I have never owned or driven an MR2 (yet!). I have done my research on MR2s so I know I should aim for a later model, 03-onwards and know about the TF300s, I really do like the looks and idea of the MR2, my sister used to own one and she was the one to recommend it, how she's against this specific car. I'll hopefully test drive one soon, I'm 24 and this is the first time I've had enough money to afford anything nice so want to get something fun while I can!

I own an 03 Yaris at the moment and before that, a Punto, so that should show this is quite a difference for me.

I went to a view a TF300 near me, it's done 73,200 miles, it's got refurbished 15" Black Alloy Wheels. The guy showed us the service book which was pretty thick and apparently its been last serviced at 72,200. He said it would need an MOT soon but I'll have to work this out with him. The car looked clean and well looked after, just one minor scratch on the bonnet. He said he wasn't happy with the battery though as its been in there since leaving the factory so he said he'd replace that. I know the storage is bad in an MR2 but I don't really need to store much except for hockey stick bag and kit bag, from what I've seen it seems adequate but just wanted to double check.

I'm looking to part exchange it with 54 plate Fiat Punto Sport. The car itself is going or £5,250, which is a bit more than I originally wanted to spend on a car. Any idea how much I should look to get taken off with the Punto?

Basically just want to ask if you guys think this is worth it? Also any advice or information and key things I should look out for when I go back to check it out would be great!

Cheers.

If you can, sell your car privately to get a little more, and be a cash buyer for the MR2.

Woah there! They're surely not five grand cars these days.

I simply wouldn't buy an mr2 from a dealer. Those prices seem excessive. Go with a well looked after one from the owners club.

MR2oc.co.uk and imoc.

Also look up mr2 drivers club, but roc (roadster owner club) is probably more apt for you.

Thanks for the responses. So five grand is too much? I thought it would be. I think I was just drawn to the uniqueness of it.

Thanks again!

Couple of grand buys a very tidy and usable one - 5+ grand is an outrageous rip off for one.

Just get any facelift

Nice car but 70k and 5 k asking is a joke

Only got 4.5k PX in May 2010 for a 75 k may 05 car with leather interior

There's a tidy looking 2001 Y plate in silver near me with full history (according to the ad) and 12months mot. Asking price...£950.
