PMR 446 is legal but poor for use car to car

CEPT CB may be better for car to car despite hte limitations of CB

proper PMR is rather more complex with regard to legality

using UHF PMR kit on 446 runs risk of a serious OFCOM ( or equivalent outside the UK) arse -reaming

Did this sort of tour in the summer and we used boggo consumer PMR walkie talkies, one in each car, no problem.

Those high powered US walkie talkies would really work well.
But I don't believe they are legal in Europe. wink

The reality is.... are both cars going to be any further than 1/2 mile away?
If so... EU spec walkie talkies won't work. ( despite the 30 mile claims on the box )

I shouldnt really mention these, as they are really amateur radio equipment, so you should be licensed..

Set them up on 446 Mhz, do not use them on the 2m, 144 Mhz band, set them to low power (1w) output, easy to do in the menu system, they work very well for car to car comms.

Me and a friend just used some cheapo ones from a supermarket for many car shows in 2014, for speaking between either end of a car convoy - worked fine
