I was wondering what the legalities are of parking in EV bays not in an EV obviously? They seem little used and sometimes they are the only spaces empty in busy times...

Is this the inlet I need for a charging station connection? Ideally I'd like to get one as cheap as possible and cut it into the bumper of my car so i can connect the charger cable so it looks like it's on charge and ta da easy parking and no ones none the wiser.

Thanks,

Enforcement agencies both civil and government use the DVLA vehicle and fuel class to determine illegible parking.

I'll get my old man to start parking his Zoe at petrol station pumps!

Amazing how it can work both ways!

This is perfectly fine as those driving fossil fuelled cars are far more important then anyone who would ever buy an EV

But of course

You will only be stopped for 5 minutes as that is the life of a powerfully built director type

I suggested this to the wife. Didn't go down well.

Check out the signs round the bays, I thought the ones in our local multistorey were EV only, but on closer inspection they're EV only up until 10am, after that they are fair game. As a result, they are usually the ones I make a beeline for.

Must admit I'm firmly of the opinion that if you can't make it to the shops and back without refuelling, you probably need to consider something a bit more appropriate.

I was at ikea last night at Thurrock and there was a 118d bmw and a Honda civic both parked in the EV bay. A call out was made but no one arrived to move there cars. When I left I saw the bmw occupants depart, the fkers just left there trolley on the path. Last time I was there a leaf driver parked up behind a non EV car really tightly and went into ikea.

We should have more EV bays. Every time someone with a non EV parks there, the DVLA should automatically shred their licences. It has the effect of removing the entitled people from the roads and onto buses where they can moan.

Not entirely sure what's more entitled than needing a special parking space because the car you bought out of choice can't go more than 10 miles without needing more juice.

Would I be correct if I said it's worse than parking in disabled bays or children and parent bays. A big problem is that stores put them close to the front doors as it's easier to retro fit the mains cable. I'm sure if you put the bay's at the other end of the car park wkers would still park there out of spite.

I don't see how it's the fault of EV owners. They've bought the cars, and other companies are putting in the infrastructure. That's the way that they've chosen to do it. Why are EV owners to blame here? Seriously, get a grip of yourself.

I've already fitted a charge point to my car, so I get to park in one of those bays.

Treat them the same as you would treat a disabled parking space; I'd only park in one if literally every other space in the car park was full but if I had to park there I wouldn't feel guilty about it.

I can't say that I've ever seen a car park that full yet though.

I have just leased a Renault Zoe and one of the best things is getting access to EV parking bays which are often in prime spots and you can charge up usually for free.

Probably becuase they bought a massively compromised car either out of some misguided assumption it was going to save the planet, or that the fact that most manufacturers can't give the fecking things away means they got a good deal - either way, I fail to see why they should be entitled to a special parking space. We've got a big enough sense of entitlement in this country as it is frankly....
