I've had a ZR for just over a month and being the type of person I am I've started to service it quite heavily. This could be the same with any car I get but I'm getting tired of it. The car was fine before I touched it but I didn't feel 100% knowing I wasn't aware of anything going on.

Now, whilst I'm unlikely to change car so quickly, hypothetically speaking if I were to get another car in the same price bracket, £500 - £1000, is there actually anything that exists which could be run into the ground with only basic servicing? I don't agree with that type of car ownership but I spend all my time worrying about this that given a choice it might actually be easier to change cars.

I've got 0 no claims, I'm on my first car. It'd have to be a weird model for me to possibly get insured

Whats wrong with just keeping the ZR now you've done some of the servicing bits? May as well at least run it for a year and get yourself some no claims?

This. Changing cars is expensive.

If you want a 500-1000 quid car which isn't equally labour intensive you're going to end up with something pretty uninspiring. Automotive cockroaches such as the Micra, Primera etc spring to mind.

What sort of servicing have you done?

Regular servicing e.g. fluids, filters, pads will need to be done to any vehicle. If you've already done it with this one, then you dont have to do it with another one.

If its other items e.g. bushes, then again you could need it doing on another car. That's not really a service item, so you dont want to be doing it mroe times than you need to

In any case, whatever work you've done on this car you might need to do on another car. So save yourself the bother, keep the car you have for a little while longer, build up some no-claims and save up some money and then buy a looked-after car that's nicer / more desirable (to you)

Why dont you try running your ZR into the ground with only basic servicing? It'd save you £500-£1000 of finding out you're still the same person and you're still going to worry about it for some reason

Better the devil you know, at least you know what work you've done on the ZR. Changing it is a minefield; could get lucky, could end up with £££ bills as you don't know what's been done & what's not been done maintenance-wise

Just keep running the MG. Any car you buy for that price range is going to need maintaining. Its a much better decision to keep the car and run it, it will be cheaper in the long run.
