Seems the Ariel guys answered a question that no one answered.
- It doesn't have clearance other than large tyres which means that going over a dune or off road is out as it has as much clearance as your Mums Honda CRV.
- It isn't that fast, you would be toast against a competitor in say a Bowler Wildcat.
- You get covered in dirt or the stuff you are driving through which is fatiguing and uncomfortable.
- The radiator fan is sitting prouder than a honeymooners dick so a rock kicked up by the blokes who pass you would break it.
Stephane Henrard's VW Bug holds much more street cred off road and has a 3.0TDi V6 engine with 380lb/ft mounted mid/rear and has evolved over years of Dakar races.

I expected it to be a half decent thing for a play toy that spent most of it's life on the road, and the odd blast around on some gravel or run up greenlanes - but looking at it, I'm rather less impressed, in fact, I'd have serious concerns about using it hard on anything but tarmac.
