It's pretty well documented that winters come into their element below 7 degrees when normal rubber tends to harden up and lose traction. I have a feeling there will still be a lot of days below that to come.

It was 14 degrees on my car display on the way home from work.

Early but wise.

Mind you, most British "winter" turns up between January and March. (And then in August when you're on the beach in Cornwall.....)

Seriously, what's wrong with normal tyres when it gets below 7 degrees? I've been driving 23 yrs, never had a set of winter tyres and never had a problem with normal tyres through 23 winters.

Given it can snow up to April, your actions might be premature.

I wonder if the OP has the slightest idea what he's done by starting this off again..

I'm not interested in the long, tired old debate between those who actually look at data and logic and those who don't want to change their habits, but I do think paying for winters and then taking them off in the second week of January is pretty daft. I don't think winter has shown itself yet.

I just look at extended weather forecasts, plenty of days yet with temps of 7 degrees or lower. My winters are staying on

The bloke I saved from a five mile hike through the Boxing Day blizzard was quite impressed as we breezed up the hill, past a great many stranded cars and now has a different view from you.

Don't you have any hills on your side of the hills?

Unless my memory is hazy, it's not uncommon to have had snow in February or March? I wouldn't be in such a hurry to ditch the winter rubber personally!

Take them off in April ( or March)
Would be stupid to take them off now, unless you are planning on doing a track day between now and April.
it makes F* all difference in weather like today but those few frosty/icy mornings eves and the rare bit of snow it makes a lot of sense to keep them on for now.

It's well documented by the tyre industry indeed. Good summer doesn't come off a cliff at 7 deg, they only very gradually and gently losing friction then. They start getting worse at 1 or 2 deg IME, which is my threshold anyway.

I had a set of winter tyres some years ago. Since then I have not bothered with them. It is a waste of time down south. Not a single flake this year.

Fair enough if you live in the highlands of Scotland or similar then I'm sure they might be of some help. But for the majority of people who are driving to work and the shops etc are they really necessary just because it gets a bit cold?
No,of course they aren't and no there are no hills where I live.
