Hi Guys

I was hoping some of you could share your views before my car goes in for Ford to take a look at my gearbox on Monday. I have a 2013 Mustang 5.0, manual which I got new from Ford in Dubai in Nov 2013. The warranty period is 3 years. The gearbox has always been notchy, but changes into 2nd and 3rd have become increasingly troublesome - sometimes I can feel the mechanical resistance and it has even been known to crunch. Sometimes, it just skips into gear, but very often it resists. The car has done 23,000 kms only.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be the route cause here? I have booked the car in for the dealer to look at on Monday - I'd like to know what might be the issue before it goes in, just in case they try to fob me off.

Thanks all.

Sounds like your clutch is dragging to me, I'd expect them to be looking at the master and slave cylinder and checking that the hydraulics are bled.

Late Mustangs are a bit notorious for this.

The factory shifter & linkage isn't really up to the job and most people seem to change to a short throw MGW or Barton.

A change of fluid might help as well as the factory stuff is a bit thick.

Redline MTL or similar would help.

Just to update you - Ford rather unsurprisingly formed the view that there was nothing at all wrong with the car. They asked me if it was possible that I wasn't properly engaging the clutch and wanted know how much experience I had with a manual gearbox. Little point arguing with them. I am going to leave it for a couple of months and see how it progresses. Who knows, I might even get the nack of driving a manual in my 26th year of driving one.
