Arse, feck, st, bks and women's things. I went up to Penrith in my pristine (but grimy) Scirocco (Motability car). It was v. windy but I parked in a sheltered spot and opened the door to the 2nd detent stop (of 3).
A sudden gust took the door and smashed it hard against the adjacent will which was, yes, feckin' pebbledashed.

Sod!!!!

The good news is that I've a few months before I change cars. My pal and I can also fix it. It'll obviously be a full door spray job and I could've done without it. But I want my Motability condition bonus and won't get it as is.

Heigh ho.

What is the condition bonus?
I've worked on a lot of Motability cars and some of them have been really abused, with the owners not giving a single fk about all the dents, scratches, fag burns and stains all over the interior.

Something about an adjacent will. He whacked it with the door, so looks like he didn't come into what he thought he was coming into...smile

Apart from the excess...

Cue the berks giving the guy a hard time because the OP has got a decent car on Motab. We don't know his personal circumstances-so despite whatever reason he qualifies for one a two door coupe could suit perfectly.

And it's not a "free" car, before someone else says it.

Let's just say he's not financing it out of earned income.

I don't know the OP but I bet they would be very willing to give up the car if they didn't have the health problems that means they are eligible.

..................

OP, I wouldn't worry too much about the damage, it doesn't look to bad.

A mate took his car back that had been keyed all down one side, but the rest of the car was well looked after. The dealer spoke to Motability and they said as it was not the fault of the driver and because it had obviously been looked after they would pay the good condition bonus.

Few things to straighten out, as well as the door...

Adjacent wall, not will. Typo.

The Motability condition bonus is £250, which you get because you've kept the car in good shape. They allow 'fair wear and tear'.

The insurance excess is £100.

OK, I was severely pissed off at this incident. Hence pig snot - an expression of frustration and disgust.

Having sent the pics to my mate, the concensus is that factory base and clearcoat aerosols should do the business, after a little panel beating and filling. After all, a two-year old car's paint shouldn't have faded.

Re the old Motability debate. Yes, it is a Scirocco. It has long doors that open wide(!), three ride quality settings, electrically heated seats with electrically adjustable lumbar support and dual-zone aircon.

Now, here's how to get one...

Get your lowest lumbar disc to slip (burst actually), so the material that pops out leans on your sciatic nerve. In case you need to see how thick your sciatic nerve is and where it goes to, see below (yellow bit).

The pain has to be bad enough to make you stagger from lamp post to lamp post. Then, after being zonked out on heavy-duty painkillers for 18 months, you go in for an op. Then, you find out you're good a at growing scar tissue inside so the pain comes back. So you have a second op, which includes scar tissue dissection. After it, the pain comes back again.

Next, you go in for op number 3, which is for the implantataion on an electric device in your side, which is wired to an electrode right next to your spinal cord, about halfway up your back. But it's a piece of cake, apart from the one-slip-and-it's-a-wheelchair-for-ever part. That's at best - the possibility of dual incontinence adds a soupcon of additional risk to spice things up.

Then, you go in for op number 4, because the electrode's too low down. Your sciatic nerve is still doing it's 3-foot toothache impression but the electrical buzzing is in your chest. Wrong.

After op number 4,with addition of a second electrode, the buzzing is modifying the pain to an extent, so you can just use paracetamol. You still need a walking stick, however, and can't even stand for five minutes without pain.

Oh, and you have to develop multiple sclerosis about the same time as the disc lets go. You must lose about 60% of the visual acuity in one eye, and score no more than one out of twelve in a colour vision test on the same eye. Then, you must put up with the pain of optic neuritis, develop double vision, wear a prism over the bad eye for 6 months, and have a medically-restricted driving licence. By the way, you must accept that MS is an incurable, ongoing condition with no guarantees either way.

Perhaps the naysayers who think I shouldn't have a decent car would like to try the above for themselves. If so, they must bear in mind that the car can cost up to £60 a week (your disability allowance). For a better specced car, or for any extras or modifications you need (not just want}, you must pay the difference.

Am I moaning? Certainly not - it's a good deal for people such as me. I am, however, fed up of the naysayers. I'd gladly give up the car to lose the above and it's ongoing consequences. Like the people in the bad water in Africa ad, I have no choice.

Enjoy your health - it may not be permanent.

Sounds terrible. My sympathies are with you. I do have to point out that the dissection specimen is a dog though...

Couldn't have put it better myself.

There are some who abuse the scheme but I can assure everyone they are in the definite minority, despite what the Daily Wail would have you think.

I think the 'tail' is skin from the leg. Or it's a dog with both forward and rearward-facing knees smile

I had a Scirroco as my motability car also, war pensioner, got my knee's messed up serving in NI in the 80's. The wide opening doors are great if your knees don't bend like they should.

The damage doesn't look that bad to be honest, I spent a few years working in car sales at a main dealers after I left the forces and some of the motability cars that came back had far worse damage than yours, and they still got the bonus.

If in doubt pop it into the dealer you purchased it from and ask the motability chap his opinion.

OP, best thing is to claim on the insurance. It's £75 excess and doing so won't affect your good condition bonus at the end.

I do find it hilarious when people say silly things about people who have motability cars, just because someone isn't in a wheelchair doesn't mean they're not disabled!
