I'm trying to decide between these two as my next daily driver, both would be about 3 yrs old. They are both great cars, with fantastic sounding engines.

Much as I love the Mercedes, I live in Canada so I like the thought of a Jaaaaaaaaaaaag is nice and British.

What would you choose and why? Any major issues? Is Jag reliability significantly worse than Mercedes?

I was also thinking if I went for the Jag I might hold out until I can find an XF-RS, but they are hard to come by.

The facelift XF seems to have banished any reliability issues, but don't assume the Merc is any better. It's not. The XF also looks way better than anything Merc have produced, or can produce IMO. I'm just gutted I didn't opt for the R last year when I bought my second S given the current fuel prices.

Don't they fall into completley different classes? The XF is an E-class type barge, surely it's much bigger than the C?

I wouldn't call the XF a barge. Merc yes.

An XJ.

As for OP, represent the British. Been in Oz recently and loved seeing the odd Jag standing out among all the countless grey German st out thee.

Merc has an epic engine - but, not a lot else in my view.

Jag has an equally epic engine plus great looks, great interior & and great chassis smile

XJ is S class size though IMO

I'm with Kambites on this one, XF-R would be an E63 competitor. The match for the Ç class would be the upcoming XE.

I would class the XF as a barge but not the C class.

EDIT: Just to add I voted for the XF-R, I have family in the states and love seeing British metal out there smile

Anything 5 series sized is a barge in most people's books.

I agree, the Jag is larger than the Merc, but these are the two I'm cross shopping regardless of the natural competitor.

Both bloody barges. All C classes look bloated.

I have driven neither, but I could never see myself in the C63. It's a C-class with a gorgeous engine but not much else different from any C-class. I don't like the look of the auto box, either.
