Iv just bought a new car and trying to tax online using the new keeper part. It only has 11 digits not the 12 they ask for. Can't find any clarification. Anyone else had this problem?

I was going to suggest it was an old blue/green V5, but looking at one I have here, that has 12 digits too, split into 5 digits, space, 3 digits, space then 4 digits,so not that.

I had the same problem when I bought my Eunos. Phoned the DVLA and was told I'd have to tax it at the post office, as it was the old style new keeper's supplement.

I seem to remember having a previous V5C/2 knocking about in the documents when I bought my car recently and tried to use that number by mistake and there being an alternative way to process the application.

https://www.taxdisc.service.gov.uk/ seems to be down at the moment so I can't see if there is.

Have you tried sticking a zero in the front of the 11-digit ref you have? I seem to recall having a similar problem with a car I bought recently and had to tax to drive it home and I think that worked for me in the end?
