MK2 Focus 1.6/1.8 TDCI
Discussion
Been reading the reviews especially on the 1.6, seem all good mostly... however..
have been reading that the MPG isn't the best on the 1.6?
Also that they sometimes have a lack of power..
currently have a £2500-£3000 budget and to be fair this looks like a much more convenient car compared to getting as everyone knows..
A Fiesta Zetec S MK6..
but yes, as I was saying, most of the Focus's are at £2500-£4000, would love a titanium, but if not then a Zetec model..
Does anyone know whether the prices will drop on these within 4 months time?
Also what are the things I should consider taking notice of if I go to buy one with over 100K miles?

The thread does not revolve around that one question..
Here's the answer to the rest.http://www.google.com
Edit - also make sure you pick one with decent oxygen pumps and coil packs

that's hilarious, because when I bought it at 80,000 miles I had my 'Crystal ball' out and could see that at 98,000 miles I would need to replace an oxygen pump & coil pack..http://www.google.com

Lots of problems with 1.6TDCI in Mk. 2 Focus I believe, to do with oil supply to turbo clogging up resulting in turbo death. Maybe better to avoid like the plague.
I understand the 1.8TDCI does not suffer this issue and is also not fitted with a DPF so less hassle there too.
It's an older engine, but I had one in a Mark 1 Focus and after remapping it went pretty well and stil managed around 52mpg at an indicated 75mph cruise.

1.6 lots of expensive trouble but fairly economical.I understand the 1.8TDCI does not suffer this issue and is also not fitted with a DPF so less hassle there too.

1.8 lots of expensive trouble and not very economical

Is it the same engine as the 1.6 HDi then? Heard the same about those and got someone keen on a 1.6 TDCi but don't want them buying a liability if they're not mech minded? (they're not particularly car savvy either)DickP said:

Yes, same engine. It was a joint development between Ford and PSA, and is also used in MINIs and Volvos.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
