Insurance write off being exported & imported

Hi

Heard the other day that if a car has a write off marker against it (cat c/d) it can be exported, registered in the new country, and then imported back here again to lose the marker?

Is that true?

A bit worrying if so.

Presumably the log book would show a recent import, on a right hand drive car - wouldn't it raise questions?

I've heard of dodgy situations with cars being exported to NI then back again and the logbook starts again in terms of owners, not sure if it wipes other history too.
