I know there has been many threads on this in the past, but im just curious on up to date thoughts on what could be a good investment regarding cars this year. (Regardless of Budget)

That and, what cars can people see increasing in value in general taking into consideration the values of the last 5 years or so?

An example of modern day cars that hold their value well seem to be a non molested MK2 Focus RS ..along side good examples of RS3's.

Older cars such as Clio V6's seemed to have rocketed over the last 5 years aswell, as have 964s and 993s. Lotus Carlton prices seem a bit all over the place at the moment, over the last year ive seen them range from 15k to 40k.

what are your thoughts/predictions?

Been thinking about making an investment myself. However, I think there's good chance that this year the bubble in classic car prices will finally go pop. World economy's looking iffy, housing market seems to be going down, personal and national debt is maxed out, election means uncertainty. Just IMO of course.

If I had the space to buy an e36 then I would do it this year. Becoming harder to find the really nice examples and I'm sure values will start to increase.

Quick, buy one now when they're reasonably priced.

Given that I am thinking about selling the white 968CS at some point this year I predict that prices of these will go though the roof about 2 weeks after the deal is done.

As will prices of Catherhams as soon as we have bought a house with enough garaging for three cars.

In the real World I would suggest that those who are interested in a cheap 996 have not got long left to get one. Question is do you go top end with a Turbo and Tip or purist and look for a manual 3.4 C2. I know which I would buy if I had an eye on investment.

F360's have already started their rise so the boat may have sailed there but I think that F430's still have a little bit to drop before they reach the bottom before the inevitable (one day it WILL happen, look at those 400's...) climb of anything with a donkey on the bonnet.

Bargain mainstream buy of 2015? - AMV8V When you can buy a reasonable used one for less than the price of a new Golf you know that there is a better than evens chance you are going to at least get your capital back, if not free motoring.

Outside punt - Early Audi R8's, especially the ones with a manual 'box.

Top buying tip? If you are buying for fun buy what you want and don't get bothered if you lose money, let alone fail to make any. If you are buying for investment be prepared to have your money tied up, and have to store and look after, the car you buy for at least 10 years and make damn sure you are buying the car for you.

All the cars I look at either don't seem to be dropping in price, or are on the increase

Elise S1
Z3MC
Integrale
Clio V6
Megane R26.R
VX220 (any variant)
Exige S2

I'd drop my £10k-£25k into any of these, enjoy it and you'll probably get your money back at least

Early, stock Skyline's and Evo's. Just have a feeling that the generation that grew up with them now have the money to buy.

Porsche 996.
Early Boxster?
F430's have already started to rise but still look amazing value next to a 360.
Low mileage E46 M3s have been on the way up for a while, but slowly.

Nothing.

I have just bought a 1989 300SL and fully expect it to lose a lot of value (I don't intend to sell it).

I expect all classic car values to be hit hard over the next few years.

I reckon Ferrari 360 (excluding Stradale) will do particularly badly as it is ignored in future in favour of F355 (more beautiful and classic) and the F430 (chain rather than timing belt so lower running costs).

Most Astons will depreciate to early DB7 values (too many made).

911s of all flavours due a big correction.

I think the Skyline's might be very dependant on the spec, GTR's (if that's only what you meant) then I could see that happening, because I want to buy one in a few years time. GTS-T's not so much, however even these in stock are hard to come by in good condition.

Not at the moment, but Diablo prices are on the up, and at the end of the day a V12 manual MAbo is a rare thing. I reckon £90k into one now could be a good bet, they might follow the Countach in a few years.

Can't stand the idea personally.

Cars are to be driven not to make money on (traders excepted obviously)! If you plan to use your car and look after it with a hope that it will go up in value, fair enough. Buying a car to keep in a garage and make money deprives a genuine enthusiast of the chance of owning it!

I find these types of speculators as repulsive as bankers tbh, parasites feeding on greed. Sorry but you did ask for opinions.

I have had my e36 323 since almost new in '98. Love it and always spend the money when it comes to looking after suspension, tyres and engine. Interior is a bit worn and the bodywork has it's fair share of scrapes and bumps after 16 years of being parked on the street in London.

Currently it's almost worthless but maybe someday.....

I bought a Mercury Grand Marquis back in the summer and was going to sell it on but it's so good to be behind the wheel of that it's become my daily driver. It's 14 years old but in as new condition with only 32,000 miles on the clock.

This is the last of the old Yank Tanks, body on frame full size sedan with a V8. The last one came off the production line in 2011. Maybe I should hang on to it because they'll never make it's like again.

+1 on VX220 (only because I have a one), I paid 10k summer before last for a tidy turbo (not written off & put back on the road etc..) great fun & seems to have risen by about 20% in value looking at what's available for sale now.
