Bit of a dilema. I have arranged to view a car and I am using my current car as part exchange. When I spoke to the garage I gave them all the details of the car including condition which was excellent. They gave me a part ex price which was very favourable hence why I am going to vew the car on Friday.

Today I parked the car in the drive next to my old garage door which was then blown onto it dinting the top of the wing frown I have maged to get the paint from the door off the car but cant get the dint out.

So my dilema is, do I say something when I get to the carage or say nothing and hope they miss the dint?

Honesty is the best policy. The night before I went to sell my car to WBAC it was vandalised. Big dent in the drivers door and a strange scratch on the drivers side window.

I pointed it out to them straight away and they only dropped the value by £250, which I thought was very fair.

If it is just a wing, and it's not a rare car or colour I wouldn't worry too much and just let them know.

I agree with this. Generally one should try and treat others as you would like to be treated yourself...

How bad is the dent? Could be worth getting a PDR guy to have a look.

Also if you haven't agreed to buy your new car yet then you have time to sort the wing or just buy the mintest second hand one you can find. What car is it out of interest?

If the dint is as described it will be a very easy job for a specialist.

All dealers have contacts who do this work for them at favourable rates.

I'd tell them, but would have a moan if they wanted to chip me more than £30 or so.

do the old motor trade trick of displaying the car wet , so take it past the jet wash on the way

then park it next to a wall - plus its still dark early so arrange to do the trade at 4.30

BMW 118i and I am viewing the car tomorrow

Its amazing how difficult it is to take a photo of a dent so this is the best I could get

As you can see, I hope, the door landed on the the top edge of the wing

You won't lose that without spraying the wing. Just take the car over and explain.

The viewing is not until tomorrow, assuming the car arrives from Hull in time, otherwise it will be the week after next as I will be away next week

For future reference, that's a dent, quite a nasty one, not a dint. And I revise my estimate upwards by doubling it.

People actually ask questions like this?

Since when was honesty optional?
