Most 'bang for your buck'?
Discussion
Or should I say most 'suck, squeeze, bang, blow' for your buck..
Last year I bought an MG ZR as a DD for under £2k, I've done about 10 thousand miles in it and it's been an absolute peach - I know everyone's against Rover/MG but still, £1,800 for a hot-hatch that's comfy, economical, punchy and looks good (IMO) isn't bad!
Anyone had a car similar to this? I'll be reading with interest as I'm currently looking at buying another car, not sure it'll replace the ZR though

LS400 mk4. 280bhp VVTI V8, paragon of reliability, all the toys. I bet you could get a great on for <£2k now, I paid £2.5k for mine three or four years ago and it's been perfect.
I've been casting my eye at these as well as E39 530i and 540i, Audi A8 4.2 V8 etc. Here is one for £650 with a FSH and a retired seller who doesn't drive it any more. Looks nice for twice the price! I'm not a total expert but I think that will be the non-VVTi engine - if it has a four speed box this is definitely the case. You would be giving up approx 300bhp and 10% fuel economy vs a 1997 onward Mark 4 model with VVTi, 5speed box, that also has satnav etc. I'd pay a little extra for a later one but it's up to you, I previously had a 1991 with 250,000 miles on it and that was bulletproof as well
I bought a Volvo 850 T5R and ran it as a second car/occasional van for ten months, we gave it a good service when I bought it and ended up selling it on ebay for a tenner less than I paid for it and the parts we used on it - great car, comfy, spacious, reliable and fast.
I want another, I shouldn't have sold it.

Jaguar S Type R can be had from around £3K now. 400 BHP is pretty decent amount of bang for £3K.
Not seen any as cheap as that. I would! My XJR cost 6.5K but have seen older models going between £2-3K. With 0-60 in 5.3 secs and 170+ MPH unrestricted this takes some beating on the bang for buck scale.
Yes the Lexus V8s are very reliable but look so dull.
Not sure any 7 series is as quick as a supercharged Jag.
If anyone can suggest a quicker, comfy alternative at the same price or cheaper I'm all ears?
I'm thinking another XJR is on the cards sometime in the future ......................
