Looking at the new Ford GT, whilst the design is impressive I wouldn't call it a beautiful car. Same goes for the new BMW M4; I much prefer the pure design of the E92 series. Modern cars (bar the F Type Jag) seem to be all about the scoops, splitters and LED lights, losing that purity which I find makes a car beautiful. All in my humble opinion of course. Thoughts?

Very few are to my eye, but then the majority of older cars aren't either. I certainly wouldn't call the E92 beautiful though, it's a complete mess. I think the last truly beautiful BMW was the Z8.

The E46 could perhaps be considered handsome, but not beautiful.

I tend to agree. I think the last unfussy car design I loved was the original AM V8 Vantage before that got a bit blingy.

The 8C is a lovely looking car, is that before or after the V8V?

Looks like the 8C was released in 2007. I can't think of a more recent car from a mainstream manufacturer which which I'd use the word for.

They're too big - that's something which has happened in the last 6 or 7 years. the F-Type for example could be a beautiful car but it's so huge that i think it loses that daintiness and simplicity required for a car to be beautiful.

Edit: this is what I mean, look at how huge an ungainly those two look compared to mine.

Striking perhaps, but lacking elegance (a recently thread called this out).

^That's what I meant by blingy. Original much nicer. I like the F-Type, but it never be beautiful to me with that front end.

Love the Sagarais, looks amazing. Really does show how big cars are nowadays.

Modern designs do tend to lurch between 'get-out-of-my-way aggressive' and 'factory-chaved', all IMHO of course.

I know what you mean. The F Type imo incorporates things like LED daytime lights nicely compared to other cars (Like the R8; after Clarksons comment about the council house christmas light LEDs I couldn't see them the same)

I think they can be but more manufacturers are becoming too derivative and too intent on grabbing peoples attention with jaw dropping design - I'd suggest its easier to attract someones attention through excess and aggression than it is through genuine beauty

On mass production cars I'd say that the Mazda 6 is verging on a beautiful piece of design, enough substance to keep you interested but an underlying correctness to the basic shape and form

No, they're too fat due to safety regs.
