Got the itch for something cheap and turbo charged, after recently reminiscing child hood memories of an old Renault 5 gt turbo that pushed me back in the seat for the first time i always had a thing for a good old fashioned turbo even if it has lots of lag just for that feeling when it comes on boost. The old 5 turbos seem to be going for silly money haven't come across one close to 3k, even old rs turbo's are silly money now. My mate had an old saab 9000 aero that had been tuned up and that was pretty fun to be in the passenger seat. Don't care about handling or anything really just something that makes a whoosh noise and puts a smile on your face when the turbo kicks in laugh. Any suggestions?

2 obvious choices which im considering tbh, i think they come closest to best bang for buck without the added premium people seem to pay re live their yoof.

Can you still get a reasonable 200SX for 3k? I thought they'd started to go up a bit.

Not without an Automatic gearbox and/or MOT failure levels of rust - And even then you're pushing it.

My other halfs brother has one of these sat in his dads garage. Been in there for years now and needs a lot of work doing to it. Tis a shame to see it sat rotting in there :-(

My uncle had a V reg SAAB 99 Turbo, the lag was unreal but once on song it had amazing performance for the age of car. The build quality was superb also, it was quite advanced for its day if I remember right.

I think a good one must be worth a fair bit now.

His dad keeps saying he wants rid of it, but don't know if/when he will. Needs welding in places, damp and moldy inside.

MG maestro turbo
Metro turbo
Mg montego turbo
924 turbo
escort ts turbo?
Renault fuego turbo
Bentley turbo R in very bad condition
Rover 220 turbo coupe

...er...montego diesel turbo??

And as this is pistonheads, I would save up for an F40, 959, or an Xj220. Or even buy the one-off Aston Bulldog from 1980. How about Senna's mclaren MP4/8 from 1988??? Thrust 2 was from the 1980s. Does that have a turbo??

You missed a zero off. ;-)

9000 Aero. Comfy & quick & can be tuned to be very very rapid indeed.
