Discussion
Well, since there are a few discussions going on in various threads, I thought it might be interesting to see how the collective views stack up.
While we don't know the price of each yet, a fair guesstimate is that the GT is likely to be about double the cost of the NSX. So, if you were in the position to buy the GT, would you have that, or the NSX and some change?
Of course this can't be an exact science due to the different costs, but it's just a bit of fun!

I'd go for the NSX and get an old school NSX with the change.
Same as Kambites for me. I like manual gearboxes and n/a engines, so I'd have the more expensive of the two, sell it and buy an original NSX, then pop to my local Lotus dealer
I'm a bit of a Honda fan though, so I would like to try the new NSX, I'm just not sure it would do anything for me.RobM77 said:

I voted for the NSX but am more than happy that the GT is getting the popular vote here. Part of the reason I love the old NSX is that it's not popular.

at least it's not carrying around hundreds of kilos of batteries, electric motors etc
Do you really think that that the batteries and motors aren't part of the NSX's performance capability? (I.E. Performance that the ICE alone cannot manage.)Fastdruid said:

It was definitely the right gearbox to fit, it just means I have no desire to own one. I can't see Ford losing much sleep over that given that it's likely to be an order of magnitude more than I could ever justify spending anyway.

As I put in another thread calling it a slushbox is misleading, it's not a torque-converter it's the same dual-clutch automated gearbox fitted to Ferrari's, Porsches, M3's, RS4/6's, GT-R's etc. While I agree with the preference for a fully manual the market is clearly tipped towards this kind of box. The PDK version of the 911 outsells the manual 4 to 1, Ferrari produced it's last manual car in 2011 etc etc.

Very fair point, was lazy slang on my part.It would cost Ford a (relative) lot to produce a manual and for what, 2 sales, maybe 3?
A double clutch automated manual is certainly preferable to an actual auto, but still worse than having the choice to spec a real manual.

Yep, I'm sending this to Honda R&D just to remind them....

Of course they are part of it, but that's just not the kind of thing I enjoy in a car. That's a preference thing, some people will definitely differ, but for me I want a car for driving involvement and enjoyment, not just outright performance.Hence the current cars I own...
That said, I really don't think that ICE alone "cannot manage" that level of performance, but that's not the point of the car for Honda. It's a tech showcase, hence hybrid. I do think this is an interesting discussion though. I would love to know what a P1 is like with say only just enough battery capacity to provide the torque fill, but not normally provide extra power. Big weight saving...
NSX is overly fussy to my eyes and I suspect it'll weigh 300/400kg more with all of the batteries/motors etc, so GT for me, it looks like an absolute weapon - will be interesting to see how they price them.
Eta: so what are the guesstimates on price? 100k NSX and 200k GT? (GBP)
