The bonnet on my work shed Passat has, at some point, been replaced for a pattern panel and is going rusty along the front edge (plus a tree branch has fallen on it and dented it).

I have got hold of a straight, genuine VW bonnet, trouble is the bonnet is metallic blue and the car is black.

Don't want to pay a bodyshop to paint it as the car is worth nothing, just want to make it look vaguely presentable.

I'm wondering about either wrapping it (gloss or satin black, not carbon or anything silly!), rattle canning it satin black (I think a gloss finish will look pants without loads of colour sanding and polishing), maybe plastidip or rollering coach enamel.

What does the PH collective think? Looking for minimum expenditure smile

Flog it and buy a black bonnet. I can't imagine you'll struggle to find one.

Wrap it tbh... That, or just leave it as-is.

Or if you want mega scene points you could get a wire brush attachment for an angle grinder then leave it to go uniformly rusty!

Parts for 25 year old B3 Passats are surprisingly hard to find! took me long enough to find a blue one smile 5 years ago it would have been easy, nowadays there's not many of them left and most the ones that are, are "keepers" so they don't get broken very often.

B3, fair enough. I was assuming a B5 or newer, my apologies.

Painting it gloss and flatting it wouldn't be that much grief, even with rattle cans - it's the route I'd go. Given the wrapover front end something matt or satin might look a bit strange.

rattle can it, piece of piss. and you'll have no problem blending in new paint with old, since the whole panel is to be sprayed. and you want it black, so it'll easily cover up anything there before and make it look presentable. £20 for paint, laquer and fine sandpaper to sand it down a bit before starting.
