Surprised at traffic lights?
Discussion
My daily is an E46 328i, not fast by any means but my pull-away from the lights seems to be much quicker than most drivers out there. Even when driving normally, unless someone's trying to nip in front of me as lanes merge or something, it's unusual to have anything nosing ahead.
I saw no reason to expect any different when waiting next to a fairly clean but mostly unremarkable Escort van.. but when the lights changed, boy did that thing f
k off at a serious rate! Once I'd heard it launch I decided to make an effort, but there was never any competition, he was away. I wouldn't have been surprised to find something like Sierra Cosworth running gear under it, pretty cool sleeper.

Autocar timed one at 4.6 secs to 60. Absurdly quick.
Has anyone who owns an M135 been surprised at the lights?
I own the ugly little car in question. I was surprised recently by a Chrysler 300c (not sure which engine). It was wet, and cold and I couldn't get the power down. He didn't beat me but it was closer than expected!Has anyone who owns an M135 been surprised at the lights?

I had a 300c as a hire car in Canada and liked it so much I vaguely looked at them when I came back as a possible daily driver. Didnt last long - somehow they seemed appropriate in Canada amongst all the massive vehicles, but look big and crass over here!

People actually race other cars from traffic lights?
Just because the Traffic Light Grand Prix is one of the very few things the Elise isn't very good at!
Course it is not as easy as it is in a new auto BMW

The car that surprised the most people was this;

No, not the 5 litre V8. The 100% electric iOn.
There was this one junction near my old place of work where you have to be in the RHL at the lights in order to be in the correct lane for the business park. If there is a slow car at the front of that RHL queue, some people would swing into the left lane to pass on the left and squeeze in at the front of the queue before the next lights some 50 meters away.
Whenever I found myself at the front of the queue in the RHL, there would ALWAYS be someone pulling alongside with the aim to quickly get passed me.
It's surprising how quick even a crappy electric car be off the line on full throttle with a constant surge of torque and no need for gear changes.
