Lousy MPG 2.0hdi C4 Picasso
Discussion
A very PH question here but my other car is a 996 so not all bad..but..
my C4 Picasso has got chronic MPG , according to book and our other Citroen as a benchmark it should do at least 45 overall.
Driving like a granny i'm getting 35,i've changed air filter, which was dirty and the Maf,still the same MPG though. Car runs fine with no issues or smoke.
Any ideas,i'm scratching my head!
Cheers

We've got the old HDi and it's pretty solid with 45-55 the norm, but I've seen a lot of the newer 16v models struggling at high 30's. The 2.2 is even worse!
Not sure what they've done to them. I imagine when they're a1 then they get nearer the book figures, but so many aren't by now!
Enhanced EGR, and DPF. DPF uses fuel to burn off soot. Take it all off I say......Not sure what they've done to them. I imagine when they're a1 then they get nearer the book figures, but so many aren't by now!
Change the fuel filter too - makes a big difference if old.
Make sure you do give it a proper Italian time up to clear the soot too.
Also you should use Wynns fuel tank cleaner (gets rid of all the moisture built up over the years and then the fuel injector treatment you may have one or more injectors not giving a fine spray of fuel instead dripping or on the way to dripping means a less efficient burn so lower MPG.
This is cheap to try and all it can do is improve the engine.
Tyre pressure is another one to kill MPG if too low. Likewise are you carrying round a boot full of stuff weight you don't need to carry.
Do you have roof rails or a roof box and leave it on
What sort of driving - do you go for >30 miles every drive or is it more 2-4 miles.

^^^ Good advice above; also check that none of your wheels are binding. Calipers and pistons can get sticky at this time of year - it doesn't take much drag to affect your mpg.
Have a look at your front tyres for uneven wear (scrubbing) - if so get your tracking checked.
Oh, and one other thing - if you're using supermarket fuel try changing to Shell/Esso/etc - in my experience they burn more efficiently and will give you an extra couple mpg.

37000 miles how old is the car. What journey type guessing at that mileage not many motorway miles so not really need for the type of journey.
6 years old but the guy lived in east Kent and had a place in France as some of the receipts were from France so I assume some long journeys as wellI have a 54 plate Picasso 2.0HDI I use as a taxi on stop/start driving doing around 100-140 miles a day I get 42.8mpg after some maths, although the cars computer shows 44.7mpg.
It is regularly serviced with all filters and oil changed every 4 months, I also use injector cleaner and never fill up with supermarket fuel on Shell.
