Many crashes on the M61 this afternoon due to people thinking they can still do 70-80? in terrible conditions.
Peugeot 208 facing the wrong way in the outside lane after wiping out into the central barrier.(More problems nearly caused by Captain America in his white 320d making a big issue of acting all concerned).(Are you the only person that can't see the occupants stood texting on the side of the m-way).
Bit further up mk4 Golf on the hard shoulder absolutley wrecked.
Further up on the other side near the services there was a big one.Artic,Navara,Juke,E-class all just made major contact.
Coming back a couple of hours later there was another small SUV wiped out on the hard shoulder.

With all the equipment in modern cars im convinced people assume some sort of electricity will stop them as normal in snow and ice.

the driving in winter behaviour I witnessed last night fell into 2 camps,

1. Drive at 20mph everywhere

2. Put on your foglights and drive very close to the car in front.

It was exactly the same driving down the A1 on boxing day.

Most of the time traffic in lane 1 was travelling at 20ish MPH in near blizzard conditions, but that didn't stop a number of dheads (mostly driving lorries) driving at normal speeds in lane 2 and spraying slush over everyone in lane 1 whilst they were at it. As if visibility wasn't bad enough. Needles to say one of those lorries had jackknifed into a hedge blocking part of the road making progress more difficult for the rest of us.

It's not just the speed that's the problem. It's also idiots driving far too close for the conditions.

To be fair - often someone at the front of the queue is being too cautious and if they were at a more appropriate speed it may cause less frustration and hence bad decision making....
