Yes, another bloody what car thread but this time I'm pretty stuck and devoid of ideas.

I've got a budget of £25k and I'm looking for a weekend toy that needs to be at least a 2+2 as we have a young daughter and would occasionally like to do a Euro trip or two. So there re some restrictions, otherwise I would opt for a 2 seater.

This coupled with the fact i'm looking for something a little hardcore has left me with few cars to choose from. I would like a real drivers car, something that feels very connected to the road, quite lightweight too if possible.

I've had a few fast Jap cars so not looking to go down that route and have also done the V8 M3 thing and whilst a wonderful machine not 'special' enough as a toy.

The only car that comes to mind at the moment is the Evora, my £25k limit might be optimistic but it does have a mini supercar look to it, what does put me off is the reviews that the manual gearbox is a bit poor. I hold the Honda manual shifts in high regard (have had many Type R's) and anything less will not do, hence I went for the DCT M3's...

So what's my choices fellow Pistonheaders..

A nice 996. Find a one owner car with history. Stiffen it a little. New rubber, serviced by some pros. Fast, quick, comfortable. Money left over. Sell after a year. Get most of your money back.

Evora N/a is nice looking, maybe a little fragile inside. Interesting car though.

As a toy to take out at weekends and the odd jaunt, I would rather have something a bit special whne I open my garage door, need a bit of wow factor.

TVR Cerbera was the first thing that came to mind, along with some sort of 911 but can't help think that the '+2' is ruining the good 'toy' choices, not sure the boot space in a 911 would be that good for a family to do a Euro trip and in both the back seat space isn't exactly 'roomy'.
Maserati 4200 might be worth a look, Aston Martin DB7, or a Bentley Continental GT.

Agreed, would have an Elise or Caterham if I didn't need the back seats but I do, the other cars mentioned are more CT cruisers than 'drivers performance car's.

Like the thought of a nice 911 C4S convertible (997) but need to budget a bit more..

This is nice.

Where can you get a Maserati GT for 25K? I think you'll struggle to get a good C2S or 996 turbo for that as well....

I'm following this thread with interest as I have pretty much the same requirements as the OP. I agree that a weekend toy needs to look special too.

Some cars I've looked at around the £25K mark or below are:

BMW M6
Scooby/Evo (I realise OP interested in these)
BMW Z4M Coupe
Skyline
Audi RS4/RS6
Honda S2000
Jag XJR
Lotus Elise
Maserati 4200
Nissan 370Z
Porsche Boxster/Cayman
Clio V6
VX220

Not all of those look 'special' or have that 'wow' factor (e.g. Audis, Beemer, Clio), but some would make you feel good walking out to them (just in my humble opinion, of course).

[Edit] Oops - just realised the 2+2 requirement. Apologies.

Leggy Evoras are getting close to that sort of price now but I don't think they're quite that low yet.

I'd probalby go for a Cerb if it was me. You'd get a decent one well under budget so you'd have some money to spend on making sure it keeps running properly. smile

The 911 would do the touring bit well but it's rather dull for weekendy type use, IMO. An old air-cooled 911 might be a good compromise if they're in budget?
