My wife has a a motability car. Having driven around in a horrible Chevrolet Orlando for the last three years, I'd like her to make a better choice this year! She has narrowed if down to these three: a a Qashqai, CRV or a XC60 (which I'd do on a business lease as it is not available on the motability scheme). I'd welcome your feedback on what you think is the better car. Or is there something else that she should consider? Thanks.

I recently had an XC60 as a hire car and was very impressed.

We had a Qashqai on hire in Ireland. Was a great car.

We have an older CR-V. Great car. Don't know about spanking ones.

For 3 years on motorbility, I'd probably go for whichever costs least.

XC-60 is a different class to the other two

Qashqai is a decent car would go for that

Would say XC60 but seems silly to pay to lease one when they other two will be virtually free on the scheme.

  1. The Volvo
  2. The Honda
  3. A horse
  4. Dragged along by the anders
  5. The Nissan
In that order.

I recently looked at all 3 to lease, the qashqai was the one that surprised me the most. It was bigger than I thought it would be and the spec was very good. The XC60 was better but in basic spec it needs options fitted that are standard on nissan and options at a lot to the lease price. Have you thought about the x trail the lease price was very close. Either way £ for £ nissan wins every time

I think you can get Mitsubishi asx, Hyundai I-35 and Kia Sportage on motability if she fancies a suv.
Automatic gear boxes, engine size and size of advance payment can limit choice though.
I fancied a Nissan but the limit of 1.2 engines for autos put me off.
Motability are pretty good at sending out information brochures.

I know you didn't mention a Tiguan, but you did mention leasing. Cracking deal if mileage low. Not too bad even paying mileage excess.

I believe base ones are covered by allowance

Uncle has an X1 2.0D and amount he pays is comically cheap considering everything is covered.

Greg,
I know how the scheme works. I have been a customer for 6 years and take delivery of my 3rd car at the end of this month.
I think I understand what you are saying but, as has been proved many, many times over the years, there are plenty of people who believe they are free when infact they cost £56.75 a week ( the entire HR mobility payment) plus an advance payment ( in my new cars case, £2000 plus £370 for a hoist for my wheelchair). Only the most basic of cars have a nil advance payment, none of which were suitable for me unfortunately.
Advance payment on 2.0 TD x1, depending on trim level, is between £800 and £2900.
I hope I haven't stirred up the same old thread we get on here every 6 months or so. smile

Agree entirely and I've had a whole new take on this since my wife became disabled. Thanks for the comments so far. Much appreciated.

All true, but it's still a staggering bargain compare to leasing privately. We have a disabled son and can lease a brand new Volvo V70 D5 for, basically £200 a month as you say and £2000 up front. This includes, as you know, servicing, tyres, insurance, tax. Oh and a 20,000 mile a year limit. If I got this privately I'd expect to pay maybe £400 - £500 a month and probably more, with 6 or 9 months as the advance payment.

ETA - THe XC60 is leagues ahead of the others, but work out how much it's going to cost you outside the scheme very carefully!

I’m in the same situation as yourself, we have to return our Volvo XC70 awd which was one of the last available before the scheme parameters changed.
Are you going to lease the car through one of the many lease companies or as I’ve read on another forum go to your Volvo dealer with the best drive the deal price and get them to take off the VAT because of a wheelchair hoist and then get it on a PCP?
I’m asking because we need a car with AWD and the lease prices are a lot more once you add this on.

Thanks
Brian
