DVLA Tax refund - is this correct?
Discussion
I know the new rules, this isn't thread one million about it

However, I sold my car on the 29th December, and sent the logbook off a few days later in January. The car was taxed up until August 2015 and I was expecting a refund from January to August, however they have calculated it from February to August. So do they issue you a refund for any full months left based on when they receive the logbook (in this case a few days into January) or from when the car was actually sold? I stupidly assumed you would be refunded from the first full month ahead of the date you sold the car.
This seems like another cheeky way of getting extra money and I know it's not that much but it's actually quite annoyed me.

You'd think they'd match the dates with the change of owner date on the V5 slip?

If DVLA received your application after the first of the month then any tax refund due is only paid for complete calander months.
Well if this is the case then they have received payment for the month of December from myself and the new owner, as well as January from the both of us. So that's two months where they have received double-pay...
I sold a car on the 22nd of Dec. I sent the V5 off on the 29th and received Januarys tax back. Checking the online system it says it's untaxed from the 22nd.
I called the DVLA before I got the cheque back and they said it goes from the date of sale not when they receive it so I would give them a call to query it. It's a new system so there may be a few teething issues.

Yup.
If you'd sent it the same day you'd have got Jan back. Live and learn etc.
By that logic if I had sent in on December 31st then I would have got January back? Only I wouldn't have, as they wouldn't have received it until January. If you'd sent it the same day you'd have got Jan back. Live and learn etc.

I wonder if it counts when it's post dated.

How long should the refund take? I sold my Disco in mid December and sent the slip off, the car was taxed until June but I haven't hear a peep, anyone know what the time frame for a refund should be?
I sold my Alfa 147 early December. Got a slip a couple of weeks ago to confirm change of owner but no refund. Chased them last week and they said they're behind and it will be processed in the nextwo to three weeks. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
