Selling a car with NI plate vs UK 53 Style
Discussion
Sorry if this has been covered before.
I am selling my car (Jag XJ) in the next few months, wondering which would appeal to potential buyers.
Some people who buy these types of car seem to like the age of the car hidden?
Either a cheap Northern Ireland dateless plate, or the original 2003 53 reg plate?
Cheers!

I've never figured out how Irish plates work or why 99% of them have a Z in it.
I think it's something to do with the different counties in Northern Ireland getting a different two letter suffix, meaning you'll see cars with 'SHZ' and cars with 'SCZ' depending on the county they were registered in. I'm not sure which counties have which prefix, but prior to the "CZ and HZ" example, it might have been stuff like "IA" and "IG".I can guarantee someone else is able to explain this one more thoroughly, and probably point out where I'm wrong. At least, I hope so because I've often wondered about how plates here are done either.
Yes Levin is correct, it is based on counties. For example our works vans are from Co. Fermanagh so start, JIG, OIG, KIG and so on.
Yes I realize the buyer will know it is a 11 year old car, but maybe it might make it less obvious. I think I wont bother and work on fixing small niggles.

Having lived my life in Galloway, just over the sea from N Ireland I have often laughed at those who think an NI reg plate is a private number. That said I have a low opinion of so called private numbers anyway.
They just look cheap when used clearly to hide the age. In the late 90s to early 00s it was a common sight on a BMW 3 Series. IMO it is just a paid in the arse changing the plate around when you buy and sell to fool the occasional person that you have a slightly newer car than you actually do.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
