No so much a query, but an observation, and something I'm pondering...

Most of my driving is in and around town and thereafter I'll perhaps go to Cambridge or Milton Keynes once a week or so but not often further than that. However, when I DO go further afield, it's either up to Scotland (I've family who live North of Aberdeen), to the Alps for skiing or my family's house in SW France. Not to mention the occasional road trip or drive out for the hell of it.

My driveway is currently home to a Citroen C6 and a MX5 which is supercharged. The Citroen gets used as a DD as well as for the longer journeys and the MX5 is pretty much a toy, but used for the occasional road trip.

However, the short journeys are taking their toll on the C6, as it's a diseasel.. Would it be really so wrong to replace the C6 with an electric car, and the MX5 with a V8 coupe of sorts for fun and the longer journeys. The savings from using a leccie care as a DD would mean something bigger and more meaty could be much more affordable as a second car.

I know purchase costs and whatnot will affect overall affordability, but I'm not considering that aspect in this discussion... it's more whether one could live with a relatively boring, electric car as a DD, in the knowledge that there's something more interesting waiting on the drive for the other occasions

Personally yes, I can live with a boring DD so long as there is something good in the garage for the weekends.

But my commute is very, very, very boring M25 - I don't even think about the car I'm in.

I'd think differently though if I lived in North Wales and commuted the A494 twice a day.

Yes, do it.

Electric cars aren't fun per-se, but cheap motoring, push-button-like torque? You won't hate it.

I'm the opposite. If I had your lifestyle I would want something decent for the DD if I had to spend that much time in it. And given that you are stationary on the 25 for most of the time, auto and comfy too.

Yep, BMW i8 for the commute, and something special for the weekend. It's clearly the way forward!
