Driving unregistered classic car to UK from Holland - how?
Discussion
Hi
I am buying a classic car recently imported to Holland from the states - it is cleared for all import duties etc. but is not registered - the dealer says it is 'a lot of work' to register it in Holland.
I want to drive it home (and I know about all the new regs for registering a EU import) but what is the best way to cover the ferry trip and drive home in the UK?
I have kind of answered my own question - http://www.transit-plate.com/ provide plates registration and insurance for 4 days for 160 euro, but wondering if anyone knows of another way (so I can avoid the extra cost, which will just add to the looming registration costs for the UK..)
Thanks

I would say that doing it any other way than the one you have discovered for yourself, would be 100% illegal and the consequences potentially very nasty.
Does it still have US plates perhaps is it still registered in the US? That would be the only viable option.
I wish I could pay your registration fees in the UK, and you pay mine outside the UK.
Mine would be £32,000 equivalent, for a 2002 vehicle worth around £22k.

I am unclear if knowing "about all the new regs for registering a EU import" will help given its not an EU registered vehicle?
Their website says you need "Copy of the last registration document of the vehicle or COC (Certificate of Conformity) for new vehicles"
Will a US registration document be OK (if you have it)

Unless you can get export plates (German?), then you'll be driving it with fingers crossed.Their website says you need "Copy of the last registration document of the vehicle or COC (Certificate of Conformity) for new vehicles"

Importing it into the UK - well, it's not an EU import, as far as registration is concerned, but HMCR should accept the NL proof of import duty/VAT paid and issue a NOVA. No CoC needed, if it's 10+yo. Just an MOT.
