Reliable place to have car checked over?
Discussion
My car is pulling to the side and when I am going in a straight line the wheel is off centre, even after having the tracking done. At low speeds/when decelerating I get a noise that is similar to a wheel bearing going which disappears when I speed up. Also the front end makes a knocking noise when going over speed bumps. A couple of confessions are that I was forced into a kerb by a taxi at 40mph which drove off and on another occasion when on an off road track there was a stone rising out of the ground that wasn't visible in the dark which appears to have scraped my subframe (and possibly worse)? These weren't that recent however and the tyres still seem to be wearing pretty evenly.
I am thinking about approaching a mechanic and getting him to check all the cars suspension, springs, shock absorbers, subframe, wishbones, drop links, ball joints etc., as well as the wheel bearings, driveshafts and steering components, as well as to give the car a general health check. I'm not too sure how to go about finding and approaching a good, reliable mechanic to get this done, without being ripped off?
