Looking at getting a new (but used) car for me and the Mrs to share. She refuses to drive a saloon, but will need to accommodate kids, so has to be a family hatch.

Main requirements are:

Under 10k
Petrol
Relatively spritely (Over 150 bhp), but understated styling - rules out most "hot" hatches
No more than 6-7 years old
Not an Audi

Following a scan through Autotrader, I can only come up with:

Alfa Guilietta Cloverleaf
Focus Ecoboost 180
Golf GT

Also thought about a 1 series or Leon FR but the models within price range are starting to look dated.

Any other ideas, or thoughts on the above?? Gratefully received as feeling uninspired.

Alfa gets my vote. Prettiest and most interesting. I'd put money on it being the best drive too.

I like the look of this, personally

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

MY09 Mazda3 2.3 MPS 5 door
£8485
25000mls
exceeds your minimum bhp requirement by 100 or so
Even with an 'aero sports kit' it looks reasonably understated.

I've got a leon FR+ for second car / baby duties, 2.0 TSI 211bhp with DSG means it's quite nippy yet looks like any other leon, can get them well under 10k for 11/61 plate.
