Help buying next car.
Discussion
Hey. Im new here so I do apologize if this is in the wrong section or this is a frequent and annoying question.
Ill start with my previous cars.
I bought my first car in Feb 2013 which was a 1.25, 62plate Ford Fiesta that had 6 miles on it when buying. Was a great car but was so slow, my main commute has a few round abouts on the dual carriageway so I would over take people, get to the round about, speed up again, get over taken, eventually catch up and go again. Was an endless game of leapfrog so I sold it.
My second car was a 2.0, 59plate BMW 318 i ES. I bought with about 40k miles on in April 2014. This was a fun car, better acceleration. (I dont drive aggressively, I change up a gear at about 3.5k revs when speeding up so I don't go slow but I don't waste fuel) However as im young an inexperienced this car was crap. I bought from a private dealer and since having it its been problem after problem, more recently the breaks failed at 70mph causing a slight bit of swearing but no damage other than to my bankaccount for getting it fixed.
So my BMW is now up for sale as I don't trust it enough to take on my commute for too much longer.
This is where my question is. I need help buying my next car. As I have had a bad experience buying a slightly older car, Im looking for something up to a year old with under 10k miles on it. I have £13,000 to spend and don't want finance.
Heres some of my requirements:
--0-60 in under 10 seconds. (not fast, i know but suits what I need)
--5 Doors, I drive my disabled dad about so need the 5 doors for ease of access.
--Hatchback or saloon.
--Manual
--and im a 20 year old male so has to not look clearly like a girls car.
I hope I can get some help with this. I might be a male but im completely clueless about cars. I only just learned how to change a wheel last week so just want something easy.
I understand people have great experiences with buying second hand cars but with my inability to tell whats a bad car and bad first experience I just want something, somewhat new.
Thanks for the help.

What about some sort of SUV/crossover type vehicle?
Something like a Quashqai (sp?) or a Kia Sportage (with the remainder of that 7 year warranty) might be a good idea. Nice and high up, the diesel engines have enough 'go' without being 'fast' and access for your disabled father should be good (the Quashqai is one of the most popular cars on motobility).

Buy from an approved used dealer such as Vauxhall, Ford, BMW etc etc...?
If I was spending a large chunk of cash (I'm guessing £13k is not pocket money to you), then I would be a bit twitchy about it and not want to end up with a BMW like you describe, from some iffy dealer. You may pay a bit extra for an approved used car but generally end up with a decent warranty if anything goes wrong. Or if you see a car you like outside of such a network, pay for a decent warranty from a provider such as RAC.
Sorry I don't have any particular ideas as to what you might buy but it does seem your anxieties are more related to your bad car experience rather than what car you might get.

FFS - he sounds like he's a bit interested in driving and you suggest an SUV?I'd be looking at some kind of Golf or Focus - whatever falls at the right age/mileage/price.
For context, I've recently swapped a V8 for a Kia Sportage. Yet I don't feel that I've suddenly become less interested in driving.

He changes gear at 3.5k. How do you equate that with 'interested in driving?'. I took it from that that he's quite cautious, so I thought an SUV-type vehicle would be 'fun' and 'safe'. Plus, he's got a disabled relative to drive about, so space and access might be important to him.

Thanks for some suggestions. Will have a look into some a see about getting some test drives. For context, I've recently swapped a V8 for a Kia Sportage. Yet I don't feel that I've suddenly become less interested in driving.
I change at 3.5k with the daily commute but sometimes blast away the dust on days off on some B roads. Just need something for work commute that isn't too expensive

Thank you.
